Down below is an awesome Vintage 1960's Toy TV Commercial for the 1966 BATMAN AND SUPERMAN SPARKLE PAINTS Play Set made by Kenner Toys! It also includes an advertisement for another Kenner's Product, the See-A-Show! Now, up above I've included a reference photo of a different Kenner SPARKLE PAINT SET. This one featured just Batman. These babies are extremely RARE to find now a days because, back in the day, kids totally destroyed them, ha! I wish I had one of these because I totally love the vintage graphics on the original boxes.
HOLY GO-CARTS, BATMAN! Yesterday, May 15th, 2011, the company "Profiles in history" sold the original 1966 Bat-Cycle Go-Cart used by Robin The Boy Wonder ( Burt Ward ) on the 1966 BATMAN TV Show & Movie. This cart appeared in four episodes of the classic 60's TV series. It was totally custom & hand-built by Richard “Korky” Korkes and Dan Dempski. It sold for $30,000.00. Here's an interesting video that's a small segment from the EMMY TV LEGENDS series. It's from the Adam West interviews & it's the one where West tell the story of meeting Bob Kane ( Batman Co-Creator )for the first time, it's kinda funny, enjoy!
A friend of ours over at Facebook sent us this link to a really great BATMAN Fan Film. Now the thing that's extremely cool about it is that it was done in 1967! Yes, some kids back then must have had an 8mm camera or something & they put this BATMAN movie together! The thing that's so cool is that the "vintage look" of the movie gives it a lot of charm. Plus, they used some old Batman Halloween Masks as props, which are great to see! They also featured a fun 1966 Batmobile toy car that acts as the car in the movie. It's use is really clever... enjoy!
I recently came across a very interesting website called DESMOND DOOMSDAY. It's a blog all about the life of William Dozier & his company, Greenway Productions. In Bat-History, he was the Executive Producer/Creator of the 1966 BATMAN TV Show. ( The photo posted here shows him with Actors Adam West & Burt Ward ). He also produced The Green Hornet series and the short-lived Dick Tracy. The blog has a lot of fun photos, video, and interviews. but the best part are all the Audio Clips featuring his voice. You see, he did the voice over work for the Batman TV Show. Stuff like, "Tune In Tomorrow, Same Bat-Time... Same Bat-Channel!" Here's a link to the site, just click HERE!
This TV Commercial for Nestle QUIK Chocolate Milk Drink Mix predates the 1966 Batman television series and is the reason Adam West was offered the role. The dry humor portrayed as Agent Q helped the producers to realize that he may be the perfect actor.
Here at the Bat-Blog we totally love creativity, in any form. What we're talking about is when Batman Fans, inspired by the character, create fun objects or pieces of art that are Batman-related. It can be any activity like drawing, painting, or even sewing a costume! Check this out! Here is a "Fake" Reproduction of a 1966 BATMAN Kellogg's Cereal Box that they never made. Now, back in the day, this Cereal Company did do a few boxes that promoted the TV Show. But they were always presented as the actual cereal & "Batman Toys" were just a featured premium inside the box or one you had to mail-away for. But this "Fantasy Cereal Box", shown here, really focuses on the character. First off, the design is really incredible. It uses a lot of "Cereal Box" graphic elements that were in use around the 1960's: The diagonal stripes for sure. I like that it has the Kelloggs Cereal & BATMAN TV Series logos together. It also has a great photo of Adam West in costume. Plus, it's kinda cool that they printed it on card-stock & it's sort of like a real box. The person who made this did an extremely awesome job on it!
One of the main functions of the Bat-Blog is to celebrate the joy of collecting Batman toys and memorabilia, both old & new. So, it was really great to get an email from a reader named Robson who wanted to share a few pieces from his Vintage BATMAN Toy Collection. Shown here is the 1960's Aurora Batman Model Kit, a couple of 1966 Coloring Books, and a 1966 Twistable Batman made by Marx Toys. The Coloring Books are kinda common but I have always loved the graphics on them. The Marx Figure is so extremely RARE that it's almost what Vintage Toy Collectors call a "Museum Piece". ( One last thing, I made the photo of the Model Kit into a BATMAN Wallpaper Background you can use to brighten your desktop - Click on it to see it's full-beauty! ). I have been meaning to post these picture for awhile but here they are at last! Shown right here on the Bat-Blog is this totally amazing Vintage 60's Batman Toy. This is the BATMAN ACTIVITY BOX Play Set made by Whitman in 1966. Basically it's a very large paper place mat (you can color) that comes with cardboard punch-outs of Batman characters, building pieces, & vehicles. Oh man, this old toy is so beautiful!! The graphics are really great. Just look at all the photos and you will start to cry, ha! I love the stand-up people here, characters like: Batman, Robin, Alfred The Butler, Commissioner Gordon, Joker, The Penguin, a Policeman, & even Batman and Robin as their alter-egos, Bruce Wayne & Dick Grayson! There are some pieces for the Gotham City Police Station, the Bat-Cave, Wayne Manor, and also the Batmobile Car and Bat-Plane!! They just don't make toys today with this sort of imagination & quality. Especially since this thing was meant to be sort of inexpensive. So, I gotta know, what do you think about it? OK, are these called "buttons" or "pins"? ( In England they call them "badges" ). But what ever you call them these brand new Retro-Style BATMAN & JOKER Pinback Buttons are awesome! They look like they're vintage, like from the 1960's & I love the design. My favorite is the one with Joker's face, very cool. Also, the great thing, is that they sell for only $1.75 each so even I can afford to buy them all, ha ha! These are being sold over at the SUPERHERO STUFF website, here's a link to check them out.
You're not going to find these BATMAN AND ROBIN Mugs ( Coffee Cups ) in any retail store today. These babies were made in the 1960's by Washington Pottery of the UK... probably around 1966, to capitalize on the popularity of the TV Show. In fact, they were only sold in England & are kinda hard to find. Well, thanks to the Internet they're not extremely rare. Here are some pics sent in to me by a friend of mine who collects pottery. He knew that I would love these. I do, they're great! Now all I have is one mug & somewhere I have a small platter. Unfortunately they're in deep storage. Yes, they also made Batman Plates, Patters, Bowls, and ( I think ) even an Ashtray! But for now we have these photos to drool over ( Thanks Dave ). The graphics are totally vintage & completely wonderful. Seriously, I love the sharpness & color. The one with the Batmobile car is just beautiful.
Here's a wonderful vintage photo from the 1960's. I think the actual year might have been either 1966 or '67. It shows Adam West as Batman ( in his TV Show Bat-Suit Costume ) riding in the back of a car during the Aqua Fest Parade in Austin, Texas! Oh man, I bet every little kid in the audience totally freaked-out on that day, ha ha! Thanks Paul for sending this rare pic. It's a very interesting piece of Bat-History.
I saw this incredibly beautiful Vintage Batman Toy on eBay the other night & knew it had to be shared. This is the BATMAN 2 Way Electromagnetic Battery Operated WRIST RADIO Play Set made by Remco in 1966. Even thought the actual toy is kinda cheesy, the BOX graphics are totally awesome! Since the new GREEN HORNET Movie is in full-swing I thought I would post this vintage photo of the original 1960's Green Hornet TV Show. This is a promo pic showing the Actor Van Williams ( in full costume ) presenting a Halloween Trick-or-Trick Bag to Batman's Adam West... Classic!
OK, This is sort of a random thing to do but these pics are way too cool not to post. So, here we go! here's some old vintage photos I found from the history of the 1966 BATMAN TV Show that I have never seen before. The 1st one is a "behind the scenes" shot of Yvonne Craig looking super-cute in her skin-tight Batgirl Costume during the filming of the TV Series. The next one is the World Premiere of the BATMAN Movie at the Paramount Theater. It's cool that the pic is in color & I love all the old cars.
Check out this totally crazy RAT FINK Custom Model Kit I saw on eBay the other night, ha ha! It's the 1966 Batmobile Car ( George Barris version ) with RAT FINK as the driver. If you're not familiar with the "Rat Fink" character then let me say he was a "Hot Rod freak" designed by Big Daddy Ed Roth in the 1960's. Both Fink & Roth are a cult heroes to many race car fans around the world. Anyways, I thought this model kit was pretty cool!

He's shown here riding his trusty Bat-Tricycle while wearing his Ben Cooper Halloween Costume...Ya Gotta love It!!
